Crash in Assen (1995)

In 1995, he was involved in one of the most serious crashes of his racing career at the TT Circuit in Assen. While competing in his Renault Clio, a high-speed incident caused the car to lose control and roll over approximately nine times. The impact was extremely violent, leaving the vehicle heavily damaged and bringing the race to an immediate end.

He sustained severe injuries in the accident, including two fractured cervical vertebrae in his neck. The crash required urgent medical attention and marked the beginning of a long and demanding rehabilitation process. For a significant period, his future in motorsport was uncertain.

Despite the severity of his injuries, he showed remarkable determination and resilience. After months of recovery and intensive rehabilitation, he made a full return to racing. In an impressive comeback, he not only returned to competition but also went on to achieve even greater success than before the accident, strengthening his reputation within the sport.

Career Highlights.

With 194 race starts, 52 wins, 91 podiums, 27 pole positions, and 32 fastest laps, he achieved a 26.8% win rate and a 46.9% podium percentage. His career includes five major championships and strong performances in series such as the Dutch GT4 Championship, Porsche GT3 Cup, Renault Clio V6 Cup, and Renault Clio Cup, as well as endurance events including the 24 Hours of Spa-Francorchamps.

Since 2002, he has worked with Porsche AG as a supervisor and instructor at worldwide events, contributing to training, development, and competition activities. He also competed in the Clio V6 during the Monaco Formula 1 support race, showcasing his versatility as a driver.

At the same time, he managed sponsorships and maintained relationships with partners, ensuring they were well supported and engaged.
